Preparation

Prepare Before You Ride

A self-guided offroad expedition requires the right motorcycle, gear, navigation setup and practical preparation before entering the Pyrenees.

PyrAscend is a self-guided route, which means riders are responsible for their own motorcycle, equipment, navigation and safety decisions. Good preparation reduces the chance of problems on the trail and helps riders deal with changing terrain, weather or mechanical issues.

Essential Setup Areas

Use the sections below to prepare your motorcycle, gear, navigation and travel setup before starting the route.

Motorcycle Requirements

Check whether your motorcycle is suitable for gravel, mountain terrain and longer offroad sections.

Riding Gear & Weather Preparation

Prepare protective riding gear, weather layers and clothing suitable for changing mountain conditions.

Tools & Repair Equipment

Carry the tools and repair items needed to handle common trail problems and minor mechanical issues.

Fuel & Expedition Essentials

Plan fuel range, water, food, emergency items and other essentials for remote riding sections.

Navigation Setup

Prepare your GPX device, navigation app, offline maps and charging setup before starting the route.

Camping & Sleeping Equipment

Prepare your sleeping setup, camping gear and overnight essentials for a multi-day adventure route.

Luggage Systems

Choose a luggage setup that stays secure, balanced and practical during offroad riding.

Self-guided means self-responsible

PyrAscend provides route information, GPX files and preparation guidance, but riders remain responsible for their own motorcycle, gear, navigation, safety and legal compliance. Conditions can change due to weather, terrain damage, local restrictions or mechanical problems.

Preparation is not optional. A rider who understands the route, checks the bike and carries the right equipment is better able to make safe decisions during the expedition.
